PREFACE:
This publication Kinaaldá: A Navajo Puberty Ceremony was written by Shirley Begay in 1983. Since that time the book was revised once and this is its third printing.
Kinaaldá; A Navajo Puberty Ceremony is a popular publication because today (2004) many Navajo girls are having the ceremony and use the book as a guide.
The Rough Rock Community School, formally the Rough Rock Demonstration School, was the first school on the Navajo reservation that brought into the regular school curriculum elements of Navajo culture, history and language. Since the founding of the Rough Rock Demonstration School in 1966 the school has remained a leader in the area of Navajo Studies. It has produced over twenty major publications as well as dozens of other publications.
The Rough Rock Community School through its Navajo Studies Center stands committed to providing necessary publications in the field of Navajo Culture, History and Language. We are proud to reprint this important publication as one of such contributions.
